Laptop not turning on

I recently bought the new HP Laptop from QVC and I don't even have it a moth yet and now it wont turn on. I had it plugged in for a day thinking it needed to be charged and still nothing. What do I do now?

Re: Laptop not turning on

Please identify your notebook PC. It will help in isolating your issue.

Remove the battery and look in the compartment where the battery was installed. You should see a printed part number and a product name. Please post one or both of them (with all alphanumeric characters here). Post the country of purchase.

Try a hard reset as follows:

1) Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
2) Press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
3) Plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
4) Press the power button

Please post your positive or negative results here n your thread.

Re: Laptop not turning on

This happened to me just last night and with out warning. Basically it turned off and I cannot turn it back on. The battery is full and the AC adapter is good. I have not used my laptop for more than 6 months yet.

Have you tried the hard reset yet? Give it a shot and post your results.

Re: Laptop not turning on

Hi erico,

I followed the steps you posted. I tried it a few more times just to be sure and still my laptop would not turn on.

Would you mind telling me what gives you the confidence to state that the power adapter is good and the battery is charged?

Well on the battery there's a button to press to tell me how full it is charged and it lights up. For the adapter I had already tested it on a  similar laptop. I have a HP Pavilion dv7-6143cl if that helps.

Re: Laptop not turning on

Is the power adapter of the similar laptop identical to your in capacity (watts) and output (Volts and AC or DC)?  Is the connector also identical?

The difference between powe adapter requirements for different laptops (especially different brands) can be so great that it is not recommended to substitute power adapters unless they are identical.

When you press the power button do any leds light up or do you hear the hard disk making any noise?

Re: Laptop not turning on

Try it with the main battery uninstalled.
