That is, unfortunately only a maybe.

You can install the disk in a usb enclosure and then connect it to another PC and try to recover the files.

Have you contacted HP for the warranty replacement hard disk?

I took it to a specialist and the data couldnt get retrieved. Laptop is being replaced by warranty. Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it.

Hi i am also having trouble with this as after this it goes for a black screen for more than one hour and doesn't stop my model number is g6-2219sa please help me can't do anything from geting into safe mode or recovery drive etc.

I see you are having a start up issue with the computer. When it restarts you get a repair message and it goes to a black screen. I am sending you a link to Lockups/ Performance issue click here. I am also sending "Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot"  click here. I hope this helps.  Please let me know if you require further assistance.

OMG!!! This is a Merical for me!!! I have a HP Pavilion g7 with windows 8 and it kept saying 'Preparing Automatic Repair' .... and The Hard Reset sooo worked the firt time!!! Thank You Soooooo much Erico!!! Your a life saver!!!!!

My HP pavilion laptop suddenly went into a black screen and after sometime showed the message 'preparing Auto repair'
then it showed 'diagnosing your pc' and now its showing 'repairing disk errors.This might take over an hour to complete'

but it has been like this for a long time,i.e, much more than an hour...what to do?

This worked for me! I was just about to f11 because nothing else I tried worked. Transferring pics to flash drive . thank you !
