You can install the disk in a usb enclosure and then connect it to another PC and try to recover the files.
Have you contacted HP for the warranty replacement hard disk?
Best regard,
erico

HI jacka96:
I see you are having a start up issue with the computer. When it restarts you get a repair message and it goes to a black screen. I am sending you a link to Lockups/ Performance issue click here. I am also sending "Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot" click here. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you require further assistance.

then it showed 'diagnosing your pc' and now its showing 'repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete'
but it has been like this for a long time,i.e, much more than an hour...what to do?
