I think that maybe BBC Watchdog might be interested in my issue as it involves one of their favourites - DSG Group & also HP...... Lets put it this way, I won't let it go

Re: Lockups and Blueberries ? we are here to help

I have a problem with bluescreens. I have just bought the laptop and installed Windows 7 and the drivers from this website, but then the bluescreen appears and windows shuts down, so then   I try to turn on my laptop again, but the monitor doesn't work, the  problem is in "ExternalMedia" driver, so the code of the error is 6.1.7600.16385. How to solve it ?

Re: Lockups and Bluescreens ? we are here to help

Hi, I have an issue that is causing me much frustration, I recently purchased a HP dm1 1.3Gh notebook, 320gb HD and windows Home Premium, I have not as yet added any other software to this build. It has worked flawlessly since purchase.

I decided to upgrade the unit to improve performance for some programs that I may be adding, I.E. MS Visio. I have added 4gb Ram so now have 6gb and installed an OCZ 120gb SSD drive for improved battery life and performance with a fresh copy of windows 7 Professional, reinstalled all the HP drivers and MS updates.

The problem is that every piece of software I run will be very slow, freezes with not responding errors, then jumps into life again, this happens for ANY program, even typing a search into explorer like a Google search will lag in input.

For a test I installed the same OS and programs into a 160gb SATA Hard drive, this works fine also. It only seems to be when I install into the OCZ that I get operational issues, I have tried to install twice now with the same performance issue. I checked all the normal places in computer management and no performance issues are seen when the system stops responding.

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Lockups and Bluescreens ? we are here to help

The "lagging" from my deductions is usually caused by switchable graphics on the machines where 2 adaptors are installed. This DV7 does it all the time when launching a video or Photoshop/Lightroom. Never experienced it on the much slower machine that it replaced which had a single adaptor in it. Setting the BIOS to not dynamically switch, sticks the Intel HD adaptor in fixed mode using system memory to operate rather than the more powerful discrete Radeon adaptor (complete waste of time!). It is something that you would not expect from an i7 system!

Your dm1 doesn't have the switchable graphics from what I can see from the specs and you mention it only happens with the SSD installed. You also mention that you have installed aother 4GB of RAM so I would assume as you have gone over the 4GB barrier you have installed a 64bit operating system else you have wasted time in doing so due to 32bit memory addressing limitations (will only see a maximum of 4GB total for all memory installed such as RAM, dedicated video RAM, reserved resources, etc).

Anothet thing is that there are lots of problems around the web with OCZ 120GB SSD's (Vertex 2 mainly) and similar issues with stuttering and freezing/lagging. Solutions mainly include Secure Erasing the drive & reinstalling (SE'ing the drive resets the controller & wipe mapping/registers as SSD's are different than platter based drives with regards to storage - hence why you should never Defrag a SSD!) , updating the drives firmware using the Stand Alone Updater from OCZ's website and also installing the latest motherboard SATA AHCI drivers.

Re: Lockups and Bluescreens ? we are here to help

Thanks Van

A bit more info

Yes it is a 64bit version, hence the 6gb RAM, no duel video.

The SSD is teh OCZ Agility 3, and I have not seen any similar issues for this problem

have installed fresh onto the drive so Win7 knows and tuned to use SSD, I.E. defrag disabled.

Think I might try your suggestion of the drives update from OCZ, can't remember if I tried that or not.

Will try a few things and update.

THanks

Re: Lockups and Bluescreens ? we are here to help

Hello

Randomly, my laptop will either reboot itself or crash to the BSOD at which point I get a STOP:  0x0000001E (oxFFFFFFFFFc0000005, etc.)  I ran diagnostics and the only thing that I come up with is the Intel(R) turbo boost technology driver (which I understand you really don't need)

My computer is HP Pavilion Dv7 notebook running windows 7 service pack 1.

I tried to run the Wicrosoft automated troubleshooter but I get an error that it's out of date or no longer valid.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tim

Re: Lockups and Bluescreens ? we are here to help

My HP Pavillion has me locked out at the BIOS, I do not remember my password and I am not able to change it. I have tried to unlock it using the Unlock6 program which was recommended by several people who have the same issue. I have tried the usual procedures that normally clear the BIOS password (remove CMOS battery, laptop battery) After 3 incorrect codes I recieve a system disabled code (12182) I would appreciate any help I can get as I can not find any help to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance!!!!

[ Edited ]

I've had a blank blue screen but I can move the cursor around.  But nothing works. I've tried the suggestion and installed the diagnostic file on USB and already changed the boot drive to the USB, used the repair disc...still with no luck.
