My g71 notebook pc is showing a disk read error

A disk read error as occurred and it is directing to press ctrl+alt+del to restart have done that several times and still comes up to the same screen with the same command

Hi,

 

Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive.  Post back with the details of any error messages this gives.

Ok pushed the f10 key found the bios and went to diagnostics hit primary hard disk test it is not doing anything at the moment there is a test precentage status that has came up but there is nothing running

Hi,

 

It looks like your Hard Drive may need to be replaced as the test often fails to start or complete if the drive is failing.

 

As a further test, try the following.

 

Follow the procedure on the link below to create a bootable Ubuntu CD and follow the steps in Part 3 to 'Try it' to see if this OS will run.  The 'Try it' option runs the OS from the CD without the need to install on your HDD.  If this runs Ok ( it will be slow running from a CD ), this would tend to confirm that the problem is just with the HDD.
