My HP laptop is barely 6mths old. But in the past 5 days it constantly keeps freezing up .... and I have to shut it down. When I try to reboot it asks for a boot up disk! After shutting it down 4 or 5 times I finally get asked to start up in SAFE MODE. The laptop arrived with NO CD's DVD's for anything or any program!! WHERE do I get boot up disks or create one? This infuriates me with companies that sell their computers without backup systems! I am going quietly insane here. Can anyone please advise me?

Hi Barb,
Welcome to the forum!
I am sorry you are having problems!
If you system will still let you do it, you can make Recovery discs.
Here is the document that shows how to do that.
The Recovery disc "how to" is in the first section...
Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using HP Recovery
If you are to the point where you cannot make the discs and need to order them:
Order Recovery Discs for Windows 7, Vista, or XP
Some Extra Information:
FAQ On Repairing Or Reinstalling The Operating System
I hope this helps!
Good Luck!

Hi Barb...
Don't know if you are still out there.
If you are and you still need help...
SSDrive had a good point, I hope you saw his post. The documents I linked for you do cover this to some extent as well, but I wonder if any of it is clear enough to make sense in the "mash" of data that you must have seen in the past few days.
There is a tool you can run on the computer to help it to help itself. This is a "self healing" program you can thow at the computer that will scan the disk and then try and fix whatever it finds that is corrupted, missing, "out of sorts".
You can ignore all the "watch this and log that". You only have to get involved if it fails... then you have to run it in "verifyonly" mode and all that. First time, just start it and let it rip!
==================================================
sfc-scannow
Scan and repair the system. The sfc /scannow command will do that - it will scan the operating system, looking for corrupted files and inconsistencies; it will replace and repair whatever it can. If it finds corrupted programs or libraries, it will try to fix them.
- Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Right-Click Command Prompt > Select 'Run as Administrator'
- In the Command Prompt Window, type (or copy / paste) sfc /scannow and press Enter.
(Note the space between sfc and the "/".)
The sfc scan will report its findings and you can examine the results:
- Open a Command Prompt (does not have to be as Administrator):
- Use the copy command to create a readable file copy of the output:
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\desktop\cbs.txt
If “scannow” does not complete properly, try running:
sfc /verifyonly
Copy the results into a text file, pull the output file into Notepad and look for the errors that the full Scan could not fix.
Help File for the System File Checker Command:
System File Checker tool Windows Vista or on Windows 7
Using System File Checker (SFC) to Restore System Files
==================================================
I hope this helps!
Good Luck!
