PRESARIO C300 hardware or software?

[ Edited ]

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and its probably my last option now!

I have a compaq presario c300 which i hadn't used for around 6 or 7 months as i had no AC power cable. I decided to finally buy one but when the laptop was turned on, the power switch and the 3 LEDs (power, charge and hard drive) would all flicker very fast and it would not turn on no matter how much i tried. I also opened the laptop to see if it may be a loose memory module, performed hard resets and pretty much every other thing. Finally i found the solution to this problem though. I simply replaced my old battery with another one that i had much earlier (boxed) and now the laptop turns on.

HOWEVER, for some reason it now shuts down after booting :smileysad: , the BIOS doesn't pass the POST i think and so it may either be a problem with the BIOS or it could be a hardware problem. When it does boot up and shut down again, i press the on button and the power light flickers again! this time only 5 times, then stops completely, but the Battery Charge LED constantly flickers until i perform a hard reset and try again.

I also tried to use a boot cd to erase everything and reboot the laptop but half way through CD boot up, the laptop shuts itself down!

One final problem is that the laptop itself does not run on AC power alone any more. If the battery is not in, the laptop does not start up!

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME :smileysad: YOU ARE MY LAST OPTION lol!

Thanks for your time everyone, it means a lot!

Hey, thanks for you reply!

Unfortunately, I have already been on that link several times only to find that the amount of beeps on the start switch are well beyond what is listed. Personally, my conclusion is that the motherboard had a short circuit at some point when plugged in again after so long. I've given up but thanks anyway!

Have You tried to unplug batter and run it only with ac adapter?

Are You able to enter Bios?

Don't give up so quick. :smileyhappy:

I don't promise then we will solve this issue for sure, but I'm offering my help if You only want it.

Re: PRESARIO C300 hardware or software?

Hey,

Yes I did try that but it wont run off AC power :smileyindifferent:..it needs a battery plugged in otherwise the on button LED just blinks fast and shuts itself down like a short circuit.

However, I did temporarily get it to work for around 5 minutes but it switches off the minute I try to run a recovery console.

I would like as much help as possible, thank you very much for your time and effort and dont worry if it doesn't work by the end of it.

Thanks again! Hope to hear from you soon.
