PXE-E61: Media Test Failure on Presario V2306US

Hi All,

  I am getting an error message when I turn my laptop on (PXE-E61: Media Test Failure) on a Presario V2306US. I checked the BIOS and saw that the hard drive was not being seen and assumed I had a bad HD.  I purchased a new HD and am still getting the same error loop. However, when I insert the XP CD in the CD drive, I can start to install the OS and the setup sees the new drive, formats it and installs all the files for setup. But when it reboots to continue installation I get that same error message as the BIOS can still not see the drive. I'm stumped.
 Any thoughts and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Is the hard drive you purchased an new AF (Advanced Format) style? You may have to exchange it for an older style drive.

Thank you for your reply. I have purchased the correct HD for this laptop. This seems to be a pretty common error message and hopefully someone has some useful suggestions.

Any thoughts are gratefully appreciated.

The problem is there doesn't seem to be many answers.  Reading these may lead you to a solution though.

OK All:

I solved the problem for my laptop. I opened up the case and took out the CMOS battery and waited a couple of minutes and put the battery back in. (This was my last ditch effort) Put the case back together and put the WIFI card and ram back in as well as the new hard drive. Booted into the BIOS and set the proper date and checked the boot order and rebooted and VOILA!  It sees the hard drive and I installed XP and all is well.
