I have a Pavilion dv7-3065dx that will not boot. When I press the power button, the power lights come on for a fraction of a second, then the machines shuts down immediately.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
First, try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for a full minute. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start.
If the above has no effect, try the following.
If you have more than one Memory Module installed, try the following - ( if you only have 1 Module, try it in the other slot ).
With reference to the link below, remove one of your memory modules and then see if the notebook will boot. If it doesn't, try the same module, but in the other slot. If is still doesn't boot, try the other memory module in both slots, to see if any combination will allow the notebook to start.
The procedure for removing these modules is detailed starting on Page 57 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Regards,
DP-K

I bought it in Dec of '09, so it is out of warranty.

Hi,
Unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery and then follow the procedure starting on Page 62 of your Maintenance & Service Guide to remove the RTC Battery. When this has been removed, hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
Reinsert the RTC Battery, plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the main battery out for the moment ) and see if the notebook will start.

Hi,
Unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery and then follow the procedures on Page 55 and Page 60 of your Maintenance & Service Guide to remove the Hard Drive and WLAN Module. When these hardware components have been removed, see if the notebook will start.

This sounds very similiar to the Dv6000/dv9000 series gpu failures. Many forum members with those models have used the service HERE and reported good results. I notice that he now has DV6 & DV7 listed. You might want to contact him to see if he thinks your issue could be the same. His link _"About Me" shows contact info.
