Pavillion dv6500 freezes

3 year old Pavillion dv6500 freezes after being on for a few minutes.

This also occurs in safemode.

Cannot consistantly reboot

Have tried the hard reset

Not sure where to start / what to do

Go into the BIOS (press F10 when you see the HP splash screen on bootup) and navigate to the Diagnostics Tab, then select Memory and/or Hard Drive tests and see if either of those return an error.

I was able to get into the BIOS by pressing F10

I went to Diagnostics and ran the Primary Hard DIsk Self Test

The Quick test passed, then it started on the comprehensive test

It got to about 10% complete and an hour later was still there - seemed to be frozen

I tried to ESC to cancel, but nothing happened, so I shut it down via the power switch

I will try again tomorrow for the Memory test 

Once it freezes, I don't seem to be able to reboot at all for 'a while'

Does the failure to complete the hard disk test tell anything?

It tells me something went wrong somewhere, but it is interesting that the original issue was that it froze in windows, and now it freezes in BIOS,  Sounds like a hardware issue. Do you have a warranty?  It can be checked here:

If you go into BIOS and let it sit there for 10 or 20 minutes but don't run or do anything with it does it freeze?

my computer shows me ' hard disk failure' i dont know weather thats the reason why it freezes or not. can someone please help me with it.
