Probook 6550b suddenly displays blue screen

My Probook 6550b suddenly displays a blue screen from which I can't seem to get out. I'm then have to force a shutdown by holding down the on button until it shuts down.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so did you find a solution. My HP is running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit edition.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Re: Probook 6550b suddenly displays blue screen

Run a Windows check disk, then test the hard drive and memory in BIOS

Re: Probook 6550b suddenly displays blue screen

Are you talking about the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) kind of blue screen? - this is how Windows report it hit Serious Error and has to stop - usually shows blue screen with white text on it, the text tells you the error code (BugCheck) and some other information. "Startup and Recovery" option in System Properties let you choose to "Automatically Restart" - Windows will restart after the BSOD, if you don't check this, you have to power cycle after BSOD - so you have a chance to read or write the information.

If just completely blue display - maybe the display panel mulfunctioned? or video controller/memory has issue.

Thanks for responding. It's not a BSOD screen.  It's a different blue and there is no cursor or text on the screen.  I've noticed that everytime its happend I've been scrolling either in IE, Outlook or Excel so it could be a display problem.

Maybe connect to an external monitor, if it displays normal, then the display panel or the connector/cable needs to be looked at or replaced. otherwise, the graphics controller or driver problem.
