Why does my Touch pad (cursor) freeze when reading my "startup" guide and/or downloading an existing preloaded  program? (Cyberlynk Power DVD). It's brand new, I just received this laptop!

Hi,

First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52560.exe

Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall.

When this has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and see if this has corrected the issue.

Thanks for the update! Thus far, it's working great! Just FYI: First attempt there was a conflict with the download, Norton security Okayed it but Windows did not = result "file copy was corrupted." As per instructions, I deleted the download copy and during the second attempt, Norton didn't accept it; I re-downloaded and the third time was a charm. KUDOS, thanks for sharing!

Hello,

   The same problem bothered me a lot but now its good after following the steps as prescribed here but still after 3-4 hrs. use if I leave my laptop to download songs/movies/updates/backup from iTunes for more than a hour OR less the desktop freezes including everything keyboard, mouse, start button etc... To get rid of this I've to remove battery to get back to square one. The laptop was purchased in the last week of December & it's brand new. I've updated every hardware & software via HP Support Assistant but no help.

 Any help for this please I'll really grateful otherwise it'll foil my Adobe Photoshop work too because it take hours to do the work.
