Shutdown/Sleep situation with Pavilion dv7

First off, here are my laptop specs:

HP Pavilion dv7t Series

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Intel Core i5-2410m (2nd Gen)

1GB Radeon HD 6490m GDDR5

6GB DDR3 System Memory

320GB 7200rpm HDD

Second, my situation:

I just got this shipped to me about 2 days prior to this message and I've ran into a wall with the shutdown and sleep options of the laptop. Everything works absolutely fine with the laptop expect for those 2 functions. Whether I put the dv7 to sleep or shutdown, it would do the normal Windows screen logout or "shuting down", then it goes into a blank (off) screen with the cpu still running. Lights for the touchpad is still on, fan is still running, power light is still on, wireless light is still on, but I heard the HDD whirl down to a stop.

But, when it's in that state, and I press and hold the power button to perform the hard shutdown, as I reboot the system, it boots up regularly without the inproper shutdown or check/scan disk for error screen. As if it shutdown normally with my help.

It is a problem, because it's bothering me when I'm on the go. When I shutdown/sleep, I want what I paid for to shutdown/sleep. I've read lots of forums about this issue and I haven't found a direct solution to this problem.

Please, someone help me. I also just did the factory restore on the laptop, still has the same problem without me uninstalling/installing or tweaking the machine.

with your details... as i can see the computer is just going to sleep and not into shutdown mode. sleep mode will just conserve the energy but will still keep the CPU runing.. if you really shut off / shutdown the computer all lights should be off and no fans should be running.. please tell me how do you put the computer into sleep or shutdown? so that i would give you some advise. technically if your computer is on sleep mode. the things that it is currently doing is normal.. but if it is on shutdown/off mode this is not normal..
