I have an HP G72 notebook PC that's roughly nine months old< running Windows Home Premiun x64.
About three weeks ago and for a few months at a time before that certain keys do not function. Pressing them gives no resistance but no character comes on screen. The on-screen keyboard works. I have tried restoring to before the issue began but it persists.
Any and all advice will be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi,
Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for a full minute. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
If the above doesn't help the issue, then this probably means the problem is Hardware related, either with the keyboard or its connection to the Motherboard - In either case, as your notebook is still under warranty, you should contact HP and arrange for it to be repaired.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

Hi,
Ok ![]()
As I mentioned before, this is almost ceratinly a Hardware issue and although I realise how inconvenient this can be, at least it's still under warranty.
All the best,
DP-K

I've just been to the site. They don't list G72 it stops at model G71....I mean, really now?....
Regardless, it needs me to check warranty for CS but im not in US so hello local tech savvies, I was just hoping for an informed diagnosis.
Thanks for the reply. if anything else occurs to you (or anyone) then drop a comment.
please & thanks

Hi,
Shut down the notebook. Tap away at f10 as you start up to access the Bios Menu. On the first page displayed, you should see an entry for the Product No. - post back with this number.
Also, while you're in the bios menu, press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter - check if this has made any difference to the issue.

Is this significant?

Hi,
As I mentioned before, this problem is almost certainly a Hardware issue with the keyboard or its connection, so ideally, this should be repaired by HP under warranty - The support page for your notebook is Here
As you're out of the US at the moment, I realise this complicates the matter so the only suggestion I would make is to check the ribbon connection from the keyboard to the Motherboard, although this requires a degree of disassembly and I'm uncertain how this may effect the status of your warranty so it would be best to check with HP first.
If you want to check the connection, the process is detailed starting on Page 60 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
