Can anyone help with this problem?  I have a G62-340US and it will not start. Initially (yesterday), I was getting a black screen when I would open notebook to wake from sleep mode.  The system was getting very warm on the back, left hand side of the notebook.  I could remove the notebook from AC power, remove battery, then reconnect and the system would start up.  Now, today, that will not work.  I have a black screen, the red light on the F12 button is on, the light on the power button is on, and the light on the caps lock button blinks on and off.  There is nothing on the screen but I do not have an external monitor to connect to the notebook..  Prior to this, the system seemed to be getting slower when accessing the internet.  The system has up to date security software installed.

What did you do about this problem. I am having the same issue now.

Hi socajustinr. If you have the Pavilion G62-340US as well, this document is specific to your computer.
Follow all of the troubleshooting steps here to fix your issue.

My daughter had the exact same issue the other day - PC starts to slow down and then will not boot. Has a 62-340.

I have looked at the doc ref'd above but it tells me to contact HP support. Capslock LED is flashing a two. Since not all units have the same IDs, I'm not sure what the G62 is telling me with a 2 flash POST code.

BTW, I yanked the disk and tried to read it in my SATA dock and I got an invalid disk code. So I am really bummed that we can't even get the data back.

Can someone help with a diag? Is this a BIOS corrupt problem (like some other types seem to indicate) or something else?

TIA

Hi keithvh. The troubleshooting is pretty much identical for your HP G62-340US Notebook.
2 blinks is in fact BIOS corruption for your notebook, so hopefully you can restore your BIOS. (See links below). If that fails you should contact HP Support.

So I pulled the disk out and repartitioned it so the allocation table is restored.

I then followed the directions for restoring the BIOS in the link above.

Built a USB drive using the HP UEFI Support Env.

Put the drive in the laptop and hold Win+ B and power on.

I get whirs and clicks but it doesn't boot into the BIOS or any other activity.

Help?

IOW, how can I flash the BIOS any other way?

Did the last section "Recovering the BIOS using an external storage device" work?
If not, you might be out of options.

Unfortunately, no joy on the BIOS flash. Followed the instructions to the letter. The problem seems to be the Win+B key combo. Nothing happens on startup with that. At this point, I am just writing it off.

It appears as though you have exhausted all troubleshooting. You can contact support for more options.
