TouchSmart tx2 – 1275dx
(PN): NV175UA#ABA
Sufficient charge, yet when the power button is pressed, the notebook does not turn on. Fans start turning, hard drive sounds like it might be engaging, but screen stays blank. LED lights at caps lock and num lock blink continuously, once about every 4 seconds.
No changes to the computer occurred before error began. Computer functioned normally, closed lid/computer went to sleep, opened computer a few hours later and this happened.

Try this first
remove the battery, other peripherals and the AC adapter... press and hold the power button for 20 seconds... plug the AC adapter only and turn on the notebook....

Removed the battery/peripherals/unplugged AC adapter; held power button for 20 seconds; reconnected AC adapter (without battery).
No change, same error.

- Please try to start the notebook without the hard drive.
- Please try to start the notebook without the RAM.
- Please try to start the notebook by swapping the RAM Chips (one chip at a time or exchanging the slot)
- Try to connect an external monitor.

If not, repeat the memory module test with the other module in the lower soDIMM slot.

Okay, I don't know how to do any of that.
And I don't have an external monitor.

Is it smart to take a screwdriver to my computer without knowing what I'm doing?

Not without a little guidance. Be sure and use the proper size and type screwdriver. A jewelers philips is what you will need.
I will find some guides for you.
Here is a how to replace memory modules.
here is a link to a video in Spanish where a guy is disassembling your notebook model. http://youtu.be/ljVG_EKhKqM If you don't understand spanish just turn off the sound. Just watch and you will see him open the wireless modiule access door and then the memory module door. The first thing for you to do is to remove the battery for safety.
Best regards,
erico
