Hi,
I ran the windows 7 updates the other night on my HP G62-373DX laptop computer. When I started up my computer the touchpad was no longer working. I went into the device manager & it says that the touchpad was corrupted or missing. In addition my Kaspersky anti-virus is also disabled now. I tried resetting the device and also did a systems restore to go back to before I ran the updates. Neither works.
Any suggestions??

Hi,
Regarding the Touchpad, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select uninstall.
When the process has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has fully reloaded, download and install the Synaptics driver on the link below.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49501-50000/sp49522
When the intallation has completed, restart the notebook again.
Regarding your Kaspersky installation, I would try a similar approach - uninstall it, reboot, reinstall and reboot again.
Regards,
DP-K

It says I need the 64 bit version of DPInst.exe, where do I find that?

Hi,
Try installing the following driver and let me know if you get the same error message.

After chatting with tech support for a while they suggested I run a recovery but I couldn't do that without a mouse (tab wouldn't work to get me through the options). I don't have a mouse so I figured I'd borrow one & get back in touch with tech support then. In the meantime i decided to try & get my anti-virus back online. Not sure if this is what fixed it or what but after I downloaded the update for my anti-virus my touchpad started working again. Maybe that was blocking the installation of the new driver? Who knows, it's working fine now so fingers crossed I don't have any more issues.

I also installed the update from Windows Update. My touchpad works fine still (Elitebook 8560P/windows7/64bit).
But i wonder what one should do? Leave the Windows Update for Synaptics alone and only use the (older) HP installation, or install the newer driver from Windows Update? Or does HP add additional functionality to that driver (or software)?
What is the procedure? Should i uninstall this newest version and revert back to the HP version softpaq?
Thanks, Jan
