blank screen with white cursor

my mini hp mini netbook will not boot. there is a white cursor and black screen what do i do?

Hi,

Are there any error messages?

Is your notebook still under warranty?

Try a Hard Reset.

Shut down the notebook, remove the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the power button for a full minute.  Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out for the moment ) and see if the notebook will start.

So I did what you said and even with the battery out it still brings me to a blank screen with a white cursor.

re the Number Lock or Caps Lock LEDs flashing?

Is your notebook still under warranty?

 The cap locks key did light up but no my netbook is not under warranty.

Hi,

Download and create a bootable copy of Ubuntu on a USB Flash Drive - the download and instructions are on the link below.

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download

When you've created this, insert the flash drive into the netbook and then start to boot from it - select the option to 'Try It' when asked as this will run Ubuntu from the flash drive without the need to install on the Hard Drive.

Well, I have tried this and have no got the screen display on the laptop up and running under ubuntu.

Now what?
