HP Pavilion DV7 2045ea Vista 32-bit
My pavilion has been running slower and freezing, not responding in an ever increasing way over the last 6 months/ year maybe. I researched what may be causing this and found that running the scan revealed errors that "windows cannot repair". I am denied access the the windows log\ CBS files that will show the damaged files. So in desparation removed the O/S and checked the HDD with WD downloaded tool (the HDD is WD2500BEVT) results ystem memory test - Passed. Start up - Passed. Run in - Passed. Primary Hard Disk - Passed (quick). Primary HDD, long -Passed. Using the same WD tool I set the HDD to all zero and reloaded the O/S, without even going online or doing anything, I rescanned in Command prompt with the same result ie damaged files windows cannot repair. Various people in various forums and the tech guys at PCworld all pointed to the HDD as being the problem. So I ordered a new HDD from WD. the one in my Pavilion is no longer available so I took the opportunity to upgrade to WD5000BUVT which arrived today. With the new HDD installed I reloaded the O/S and once it was ready, with out going online I rescanned in Command Prompt sfc/scannow To my horror the same error is reported. Damaged files and windows cannot repair them
What is this? Has anyone come across this before? What could be causing this? I am at my wits end now

Try booting from a Startup cd, choose Command Prompt and run sfc from there. Click Start, All Programs, Maintenance, Create a Recovery Disc. Then just follow the instructions.
