compaq CQ62 screen won't turn on with stuck caps lock

Hi there,

My compaq laptop is only one month old. When I turn it on, I can hear the fan, but that is all. No beeps, and the only light visible is the caps lock key, which won't turn off. The screen is completely blank. No flashing cursors, no windows music, nothing. I have tried to turn it on only using the stored battery power - no luck. I have turned on and off several times - no luck.

Many thanks in advance for any advice to help me solve this very untimely problem!

Hi Kate,

Try the following.

With the notebook shut down, remove the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the power button for a full minute.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out ) and see if the notebook will start.

Hi DP-K,

Just had the same problem and your solution solved it thanks! Wondering if you know why this happens, is it a fault that can be fixed, something that is covered by warranty? Does it cause further problems? I have seen it suggested that it will eventually fry the hard drive. Also how common is it?

I've tried this several times with no luck... This happened after it tried to do a BIOS recovery.
