My laptop HP pvilion DV6-6168tx turns off suddenly , afterward if I try to turn it on using the power button it doesn't turn on. I have to plug in the charger then press power button to resume operations . when windows loads the battery shows around 40 - 50 % charge . I have just recently purchased this laptop and it seem too soon to be developing problem.

I,m running windows 7 home premium that came pre installed with this system.

have not installed any new hardware or updated any drivers.

Please, your prompt response regarding this issue would be appreciated, as the system was purchaces recently.

Re: computer suddenly shutdowns

It looks then your notebook have switched to sleep mode to save battery life.

Check the link below to find out how you may disable this:

Disable Power Management on Windows 7 or Vista

Re: computer suddenly shutdowns

thanks for the prompt replies.

But I don't think it's a sleep issue as when it happen I,m not able to resume operations, even the power button doesn't work.

I,m only able to restart the system after I have plugged in the battery. when windows boots-up

after the the problem it shows battery charge usually between 40-60 %. I,m also able to work

without battery after I have used it to restart the system.

As you instructed before run battery check with hp support assistant I did and it showed battery status

ok.

[ Edited ]

Try to return it to place where you bought it and exchange it on other or ask for cash refund if this is not possible.

This is a new machine and you should not have such problem with it.

Ps.

Sorry for bad last advice.  Somehow I did not notice that you may resume it only after pluging the ac adaptor.
