I just went to turn on my laptop and heard a crack sound when I pushed the power button and no lights and no start. Fans not working. All I have is a flashing charge port led and nothing else. No front leds or moving sounds.
I have always had a cooling pad under the laptop when used on lap.

The burning smell would indicate something has shorted inside the PC. Was the pop really an electrical crackliing sound? If so, take the PC in for repair or call if you have coverage on the warranty.
