dv7-3180us Lockup and freeze when gaming no clue why

I love this laptop. everything except the lockup after 5 minutes of gameplay, 10 maybe 20 with a cooling fan. The problem is most prevalent with higher-end games such as oblivion or section 8. older games can go longer without freezing.  I hav updated the graphics, but I don't know what to do from there. I would much appreciate the help. Thank you.

Hi,

It looks that You have problem with overheating. Check this topic.

How You may check Your notebook CPU (processor), GPU (graphic card), motherboard or HDD temperature?

To do that use HWMonitor (free and recommended).

Exactly seems to be a problem with overheating, i had an exactly same problem with my dv4-1242tx, all i did was to clean the dust accumulated inside the fan/heatsink/gpu and cpu and reapply Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste onto the gpu and cpu and voila, all the problems seem to have disappeared and the temperatures have come down by a big margin and all the games are running like its supposed to :smileyhappy: Just google for procedures to reapply thermal paste :smileyhappy:
