dv7 says 'hard disk failure"

After diagnostics which say memory OK, the hard disk fails the check--this after the blue screen--am I really in trouble here? Like complete failure?? Thanks

Re: dv7 says 'hard disk failure"

Hi,

From what you're describing, it does sound like the Hard Drive is failing, however it's a relatively straight forward process to replace it.  If you would like an explanation of how to do this, please post back with the following.

1.  The full Model No. or Part No. of your notebook

2.  The capacity of your current Hard Drive

Regards,

Re: dv7 says 'hard disk failure"

Hi,

The drive on the link below would be fine for your notebook.

320Gb Hard Drive

Although the Model of the notebook in the video below is different to your, the procedure to replace the HDD will be very similar and will give you good idea of what is involved.

Replacing HP Hard Drive

Further details on the replacement procedure begins on Page 48 of your Service & Maintenance Guide.

Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive.

If you don't have your Recovery Discs, try the link below to see if you can order a replacement.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en

If you have any problem with the above link you can order them from HP Here.

Regards,
