After powering on the laptop, Press and hold the "F8" key as soon as the HP logo screen disappears. This will take you to the Windows "Advanced Boot Options" menu.
Select "Repair Your Computer." The Windows 7 Recovery Environment will load.
Select your keyboard layout from the drop-down box.
Log in using an administrator account, if necessary. The "System Recovery Options" windows will appear.
Click "Command Prompt."
Type bootrec /fixmbr (with a space after bootrec) and tap the Enter key.
After the process finishes restart the laptop.

If you get an error about 'can't fixboot', then continue to the next step.
Type bootrec /fixboot (with a space after bootrec) at the command prompt, tap the Enter key.
Type bootrec /RebuildBcd (with a space after bootrec) and tap Enter key.
If this is not successful, it's likely that the disk is not recoverable and you will have to boot from Recovery Disks to reinstall windows.

Sorry your efforts were not a success. If you want to play around with other options while waiting for Recovery Disks to arrive, try burning a Windows 7 Rescue CD. Download the ISO from here:
Use an application capable of burning an ISO to cd such as ImgBurn - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. Once created, boot from it and use the Command option for the commands I posted earlier.
