i have a hp630 laptop. Since last 2 weeks, some of my keyboard keys (yuhjnm) have stopped working. Rebooting the system also has not helped.

I have removed, cleaned the battery once. Still, that also has not helped.

My laptop is a year old.

Kindly guide...If given for repair, what will be the apprx costing ?

Hello men_roshan,

I understand that your keyboard has stopped working correctly.

Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.

When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

Go into device manager, uninstall the keyboard and restart the computer.

This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the keyboard.

Here is a link on how to get to device manager.

Let me know how everything goes.

Dear Anthony,

As suggested, I followed the below steps :

- removed power cable, removed battery.

- with battery removed, i pressed the boot switch for 15 seconds.

- then started the laptop again. Pressed the f10 switch as the system was booting.

But the BIOS page didnt reflect. I have a 'Windows 7 Ultimate' system. The laptop started by reflecting the windows page and straight away jumped to the login/password page(which it does normally in my laptop), inspite of pressing the f10 tab continuously during start up.

Also, i went to device manager and uninstalled the keyboard and restarted the laptop. No result.

The said keys are still not working. Kindly guide.

roshan.

men_roshan,

Turn off the computer.

As you power it back on tap the F8 key to load advanced boot options.

Select safe mode with networking.

If the keyboard is not working in safe mode you may need to replace the keyboard.

Let me know how everything goes.
