When I leave my Pavilion dv6 alone for a while I frequently come back to find it frozen with the screen blank and totally unresponsive. The only way to get it out of this state is to hold the power button down for 4 seconds.
I eventually figured out that it was the automatic sleep mode that was locking up my laptop so I search online and found out about Windows 7's Performance and Information Tools>Advanced Tools>View Performance details in Event Log tool. It pointed to the "HP Connection Manager" software as affecting the time it takes for the laptop to go to sleep.
As a test, I set the automatic sleep time to 1 minute and got the laptop to freeze twice in a row with the Connection Manager open. I then Closed the Connection Manager and had ZERO lockups after the laptop went to sleep 3 more times.
Solution: Open HP Connection Manager and disable "launch on startup" and then close the application.
I do like the Connection Manager so if HP fixes whatever was causing my issue I'd really appreciate it.
