I believe HP asks that you remove the battery and press the start (power on) button for 30. Then plug in your external power adaptor and then your battery and try to start it.

Same issue here:
HP G62 powers up with fan and hard drive but screen blank. Then powers down after about 10 seconds. Have tried
1. Hard Reset - remove power and battery and held down power key for 20 seconds.
2. Have tried removing memory, trying one memory chip, tried both slots etc.. sometimes during this test the error did change in that the power would cycle, power up for 10 seconds, then power down again, repeating.
3. I also removed the hard disk - no change
4. tried an external monitor - no display on that either
5. Tried F10 during power up to force into BIOS, no luck
6. Removed wireless card - no change
7. and finally removed all memory, hard disk, wireless, battery ... just got a boot up error light (cap lock light flashing 3 times)
Running out of options and wondering if anyone had any other ideas.

I think you have the video chip problem and will need to reflow the chip:

I realize that isn't your notebook but it shows you what is involved.
