i just bought a referbished laptop from newegg 3 days ago. its the dv7t-6100 cto quad edition...i7,8 gigs, 6770M.
really strange stuff has been happining....from day one...with NOTHING installed...it would jsut BOOM, power off..like i pulled the battery out of it...then it would restart..bo BSOD, or error.
i found that this has switchable grafx, so i turned off the intergraded, and i only ran off my 6770..as i dont care about batery life...and about 5 min later, it started with vertical lines on my screen...graphics artifact. so when i unpluged it, it shut down....that is VERY strange.
the arfifact only happened once..so far, but the random shut downs have been happining from day one...temps, when i have been looking are MAX 65C in speed fan. and i have never even lanched a game yet, have not had time to install and i have a better set up for gaming on my desktop...
its still under warienty...but i would liek ot know if this is a common issue, and i can fix it my self.
thanks!

Hi,
It definitely looks like a Hardware issue so I would strongly suggest you get the unit repaired under warranty.

thats what im thinking also...but ingroe the graphics artifact, and just concentrate on the shutdows with perfectly acceptable temps...my old computer use to idel at 65C!..it was an old 9800gt, and on load it would get to 120C!
today, if i see anything over 70 i get nervious, and 90 im pulling the plug!
im going to run a stress test using OCCT on the core and GPU and see waht happens.

whatever...think i fixed it.
the intergrated grafx card must not be syncing right wit hteh 6770 decicated unit or its jsut **bleep**ed....
but, i turned off the switching from one to the other...might lose some battery life, but at least its stable.
will use hte hell out of her at school tommorow and see waht happens

Hello,
Goto subject in Notebook Lockups and Freezes page 1. HD 5650 has New Catalyst Control Center 12.4 with 8.95 drivers!
I put a link under that subject for switchable graphics, and it has been being updated. Should work for you!
If it were a rattler. . . .
