HP Pavilion dm1-4100eo, Win7 64bit
Synaptics Touch Pad, regular keyboard
Maybe related to battery charging not working unless uninstalling HP Power Manager AND NOT rebooting.

Hi,
Try the following.
First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp5699
Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall.
When this has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

Thanks for the suggestion, but - did that before and again, after your advice, and - No remedy!
It looks like an IRQ conflict (or I/O ditto), though - no conflicts logged.
Neither HP Support Assistant nor Windows Troubleshooters finds anything wrong.
Furthermore, this error came along with the AC battery charging error. The only way to charge the battery is to uninstall HP Power Manager via the *.msi-file. But, after shut down and reboot the error is back.
Battery Test shows nothing wrong - interestingly, when running Battery Test the charging starts for ca 10 seconds, then stops. Message is "AC adapter plugged in, not charging"

Hi,
Can you try the following and let me know.
First of all, install HP Power Manager again and when complete, restart the notebook.
Next, download the Microsoft 'Fixit' on the link below and use this to uninstall HP Power Manager.
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_
Again, when complete, restart the notebook.
When windows has reloaded, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt, select ‘Run as Administrator’ and enter the following command, then hit enter.
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes ( note that there is a space after powercfg )
When complete, type exit and hit enter. Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.
Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here. When the uninstall is complete, shut the notebook down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the notebook on just the battery. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shut down the notebook again. Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue at all.
Also, open windows Control Panel, open Power Options and check that the default schemes all show as available - if there is any error message here, post back with the details.

DP-K

Thanks again, followed your instructions - but the errors still exists.
What does the sp57398.exe do when it _uninstalls_, that is so far the only way to get the battery charging to work (besides Battery Test, which makes the AC charging work for seven seconds).
Btw, you suggested "powercfg -restoredefaultschemes" -- Typing "powercfg -?" or "powercfg -Help" doesn't show the " -restoredefaultschemes" switch -- is this a hidden one?
Also, I have tried advanced uninstall via CCleaner, Revo Uninstaller Pro and Symantec Norton 360 file & registry clean up.
Furthermore, no errormessages -- are there any Windows logs that can help solve these problems?

Hi,
Sorry I wasn't clear on this. I meant you should enter powercfg -restoredefaultschemes as one complete command just to reset the power options to their default settings.
I would suggest running the above command and then also run the one below.
powercfg -list
You should see only Three entries with an * at the end of the currently active scheme - is that how it looks?

Hi again,
yes - I typed it like you wrote, as one complete command. But it did not reset power options, there are e.g. still the ones I created myself.
So, I looked for that particular switch in the list you get when typing "powercfg -?" and couldn't find it.
Well, as I mentioned, I can see four schemes - two of which I created myself and, the active one being marked *.

Hi,
Can you let me know the following.
Out of the Three default power schemes, which one is missing?
What is the current Bios level?
Roughly how often does this locking-up happen and how long is the event?
Do you see any 'Critical' or 'Warning' entries in Event Viewer logged when this happens?
Try installing the older version of HP Power Manager on the link below.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp5515
Any difference?
Regards,
DP-K

Hi,
as of now "Maximum performance" lacks (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options)
Can't invoke the scheme from HPPowerManager.exe.
System BIOS F.16.
Did not find anything in the Event Viewer - Information, Warning, Critical or Error.
From HP Recovery Manager I tried installing versions 1.44, 1.47 and 1.48, I also tried the spxxxxxx.exe's.
I'll try installing the spxxxxx.exe you suggested.
Thanks again.

Missed one of your questions -
the hang-ups are intermittent, when it appears it is very persistent - then it goes away for a while. Probably connected to the fact that Power Manager has to be continuously uninstalled/installed.
The AC battery charging error is persistent - uninstalling Power Manager fix the problem, rebooting makes it return.
