If the notebook gets hot on it's left side, then that is just normal. What you have is a high performance notebook that runs on an i7.
If the notebook keeps on freezing up, try to run first a diagnostic test. You can do that by tapping the F2 button once you turn on the notebook.
Post the results after the test.
