Okay, so it's clear that you have a failed hard disk.

What you'll need to do now is replace the hard disk (AKA hard drive) then reload the operating system (Windows) using the HP Recovery Media that you can get from HP.  You can do all of this yourself (it's not too challenging) or you can stop by any authorized repair center (Best Buy, etc) or local computer repair place and have it fixed.

If you want to pursue fixing it yourself, provide the HP Product Number (P/N) from your notebook so I can look up the specific parts and instructions for you.

It sounds like you've probably got a failed hard disk.  Is there any indication on the screen at to wish test/error it's referencing?

If not, to be certain it's the hard disk we need to peform the hard disk diagnostic test.  To run the test, turn the computer on and tap the F2 (Diagnostics) key repeatidly until the boot diagnostics screen loads.  Then go to Advanced -> Hard Disk Test.  Run the test and let us know of the results.

the link you sent me is for a 750 gb 7200rpm hard drve but in your message you said it is a 640 gb 5400rpm, just want to make sure this is correct.  Also on the drive itself it says SATA 3.0Gb/s

Yes, that's correct.  It's another supported size for this unit.  Also, the 7200RPM drive is faster than a 5400RPM drive.  You don't have to get a larger, faster drive but it's what I would recommend.  Newer drives are backwards compatible so they will run at the fastest speed allowed, be it 3/6 Gb/s
