HP 2000
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

HP 2000-2d89NR came installed with Windows 8. Kid got a virus that would not allow us to resintall from backup on harddrive. System came with no disks or documentation for the Product Key but I was able to find the Product ID and Product Key using Hirens disks before wiping the drive.  I found a version of Window 8 in a link from HP but now it says my Key is not valid.  How can I get a good copy of Windows 8 that will work with my laptop so I can upgrade to 10.

Hi:

The product key is encryped in the BIOS in all PC's that come with W8.

If you try and order a set of recovery disks from HP, they probably will not arrive in time for you to be able to upgrade to W10 before the deadline runs out.

This unofficial link contains a download to a W7 ISO file that should work with the product key in your notebook.

After you download the file, you have to burn the ISO to a DVD using the Burn ISO file option in your DVD burning software, or you can use this tool to transfer the ISO file to a 4 GB USB flash drive or DVD.  The tool will make the media bootable.

You will have two options :
- Buying a Windows 8 restauration DVD from HP official support shop of the support page of your model,

OR

- Creating a Windows 8 Installer from Media Creation Tool, the official Windows installer tool by Microsoft for 8.1 and 10 :

your model should be with a Windows 8 home premium licence. 8.1 installer should automatically reads the built-in Windows 8 licence key and validate it whenever you connect to the Internet
