Trying draining flee power out of the system by disconnecting battery and AC Adapter, if that does not fix the issue, try and reseating the hard drive...Here is the manual link, that will help you with that... http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02164251.pdf

If the hard drive does not get detected...we have a problem and extracting data is expansive affair...

I had the same problem twice on a HP Compaq mini 311c-1101SA. It seems like they sell **bleep**ty notebooks.

I bought mine on april 7th of last year. I had to get it back to HP in december, then i just got the exact same problem this friday, out of nowhere (no more warranty this time). I lost pictures and documents the first time, now lukily i had a dropbox cloud drive for my more important documents, but still lost some pictures. But I'm never buying their products again, they're a waste of money and time.

Remove the hard drive from the PC and use a hard drive to USB adapter to connect the drive to another system, if you can see your files on the drive in Windows Explorer, copy them to another storage device., if the drive does not show up in Explorer, look in disc management, if it does not show up in there either, the drive has failed.

You would have to pay a professional to recover any files from the drive.

Replace the hard drive, then use your HP recovery discs to reinstall the OS drivers and software.
