Hi There,

 

My HP Laptop T15 went COMPLETELY DEAD while I was doing a complete system restore.  Computer was at about 27 % completing the system retore, when I decided to charge a R/C helicopter using a USB plug.  Immediately upon plugging in to the USB  drive, the screen went suddenly blank.  The computer seems to be completely dead.  There is no response to pushing/holding the "power on" button.  I've tried holding down a variety of keys (including the F11 key) along with the power button but no response whatsoever.  None of the LED indicator lights appear.  I've removed battery and unplugged power button leaving off for several hours which yields no benefit.  I can't open up the CD drive---this requires a functioning machine.

 

Have I permanently shorted out operation, scrambled mechanism, and incapacitated the laptop?

 

I'd appreciate hearing back from anyone's suggestion to this perplexing dilema.

As I understand the computer is not turning on or is displaying only a black screen and the battery isn't charging either,

 

To provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

 

Is there a light on the power button, keyboard and/or the charger port?

What is the product number of this computer? (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

When you try to turn it on, do you hear the fan running? Or do you get any beeping noises/blinking lights? 

 

In the meantime, you perform the below steps:

 

If the computer does not start, the LED lights do not glow, and the display is black, you can perform one or more of the following actions to resolve the no power issue:

 

(Click on the blue letters to get more details about each step)

 

1. Examine the adapter and power cord for physical damage

2. Test the power from the AC wall outlet to the notebook connector

3. Start computer using the battery only

4. Check that the lid switch moves freely

5. When you have completed the troubleshooting steps, there should be power available to the computer. When you press the power button, the LEDs should glow, and you should hear the sounds of the fan and the hard drive spinning.

 

* If the battery does not accept the charge or the notebook does not turn on without the AC adapter, contact HP to order a replacement battery.

* If the LEDs do not glow, and there are no other indicators of power being available to the computer, contact HP for technical assistance in troubleshooting a potential problem with the AC power connection or the system board.

* If the LEDs blink, or the computer beeps, but it does not start, go to HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting LED Blink Codes or Beep Codes During Startup or Boot.

* If the LEDs glow but the computer does not start on either battery or AC power, go to Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot.

Thanks so much for your prompt and thoughtful response!!!

 

I've spoken to a HP technician who suggests I've likely shorted out circuit boards in the computer---likely not  related specifically to charging my helicopter at the USB port but simply accessing USB port with a plug which precipitated a short.  Even if it's so simple as a secondary card which requires replacing (~$30), the labor chuarges for taking computer apart and installing would be at least $125, and much greater total charge if it's the motherboard.  Unless you have any additional thoughts I'm likely going to junk the computer.  I hate to do this.  Is there a source where the computer can be sent where it can be used for spare parts or perhaps refurbished, for example, and used in a third-world country.
