Hi beatlechum, try the solution I posted above - it worked for me.

My fingerprint scanner is working again.

Hope you get it working, you don't realise how much you rely on it until it stops!

I had a similar problem this morning: neither the fingerprint scanner nor the mouse were working. I checked the Device Manager and one of the USB controllers had an exclamation mark on it and many devices were missing from the list. I deleted that controller (including the driver), scanned for changes and all the devices poped back into life.

Here are the steps I used:

1. Navigate to your windows start screen (press the windows key on your keyboard)

2. Type in "Device manager"

3. Navigate to the tab "settings"

4. Click on "device manager" it should be a picture of a monitor.

5. When in the window click the tab "Biometric Devices"

6. Delete the item in there, it should be titled "validity sensors"

7. Then right click on your laptop which should be the very top item in the list.

8. From the menu select "scan for hardware changes" Shortly after the biometric device tab will reappear.

This should work by restarting your fingerprint scanner, also, dont worry it will not delete your finger data. If that does not work then you either have a virus or the scanner is damaged.

Thanks!  That worked for me also.
