How to password protect the whole drive?

in case the laptop is stolen or the drive inside is stolen, what are the options to password protect the drive or at least selected directories on the drive, by encryption!

 

This is Windows 7 Home Premium on HP laptop dv7-4053cl, 2.5" SATA drive

Read Microsoft MVP Paul Thurrot's article on the subject and you will be able to make an informed decision on how you want to secure the information and data in your hard disk against theft
