Hello @Sparrowriver,
Thank you for your reply.
I am afraid I cannot give you a specific reason for this issue. It's very hard to give specific reasons. It's a mechanical device and can have hardware failure at any given point.
If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help.
Thank you!

Hello, @Sparrowriver – Hope you are well!
Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a dynamite location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.
Going through your post, it either is an issue with the battery or with the motherboard of the laptop. I would suggest you remove the battery from the laptop, connect the power cord and try turning on the laptop without the battery.
If the laptop is powering on without the battery, then the issue is with the battery. If the laptop is still not powering on, then I am afraid there is a hardware failure with the laptop.
You can contact HP Phone support to create a service for your laptop. You can visit http://www.support.hp.com/contact-hp and fill in your product details to get the tech support number.
If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help.
Cheers 🙂
