1110NR Mini

Gifted an HP 1110NR Mini by my nephew, but it boots to a password only.

System halts with CNU90217KY

How do I get past this, and how do i reset or delete the password so this doesn't do this again?

Thanks,

John

That got me past that screen...

Then I get dumped on a user ID and PW screen.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

John

Hi,

You're welcome :generic:

You can remove the need for a power on password as follows - use the code from my previous post where necessary.

Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up menu and then select f10 to enter the Bios menu.  Use the arrow keys to highlight the Security tab and hit enter.  Use the arrow keys again to highlight power on password and hit enter.  Enter the current password ( use the code in my previous post ) and then for the new password, just leave this blank and hit enter - do the same for the confirmation field.  Press f10, select to save the new settings and hit enter.

Regarding the user id password, there is a general policy on the Forum not to provide methods to bypass Windows log-on passwords, however a local computer shop would be able to do this for you.

Another option, if all the  personal data etc is backed-up, would be to reset the notebook to its 'Factory Condition' and then set it up from the beginning – if you don’t have your Recovery Media, the notebook will have shipped with a Recovery Partition which can be accessed at boot - ie shutdown the notebook, then start tapping away at f11 as soon as you power on.

A full guide on this can be found on the following link.

So I've been able to reset the bios password.

I don't mind doing a full system restore but can't get the f11 to get me to that screen.  The system goes directly to the login screen.

In doing a full restore from a usb drive, I'm prompted for the OS.  I have no idea which OS this mini was shipped with XP, Vista, 7, Linux?  Can I simply restore to Win 7 if it was originally loaded with something else?

Hi,

The Specification Page lists it as shipping with Linux - HP will no longer stock recovery media for this, but it is still available from the 3rd party re-seller on the following link.
