This "worked" ...voice translation error overlooked. Isn't there any way to edit or delete these posts of ours?

Tonight I just kept holding down control alternate delete until the computer started. Not sure if it will work every time, but it's worth a try. Meanwhile, just today I bought a new computer because this six-year-old is acting a bit sketchy.

Finally, even holding down control alternate delete didn't work. I inserted disc 1 of recovery, and got it to start, but clearly the computer has something wrong with it, and I'm glad I have a new one coming today. I don't believe it's worth trying to fix this 6 year old computer which has served me well up until recently.

Instead of shutting off the computer normally with the left hand start button, I just hit the shut-off switch in the upper left-hand corner. When the computer restarted, it said it did not shut down normally. I allowed it to do a check of disks and ultimately it started normally. So you might just try that just shut it off but the on-off switch instead of the proper way in the lower left hand corner. Maybe a drastic measure but it might get your computer going. I apologize for any voice translation errors.

I have the same issue with my pavilion elite hpe. I have upgraded to SSD, and then to a SATA3 PCIEx card to get more speed. The Issue seems to be the power. Something is not getting enough juice while the BIOS is checking for available devices. I have come up with a solution:
1) Find you old USB stick. The smaller the better.
2) Make it a bootable device by putting FreeDOS on it using a utility such as Rufus.
3) Edit the autoexec.bat file by adding "fdapm coldboot"
4) get fdapm. there are links from the FreeDOS sites or you can just search on the internet.
5) Make your USB stick a second bootable harddrive-- second in line.
If the primary disk is not found, your DOS stick will boot and reboot the computer, allowing the disk/card/etc enough to power up. It is similar to the ancient disk spin-up issues.

Mine seems to have fixed itself. It happens every so often, but isn't a big deal.

Yeah, same here. But now I have the solution that fixes it automatically. Hehehe :D. There are "delays" in some BIOSes that let you wait for the hardware to power up, but there's no such option in my HP computer.
(This all works granted that your drive is not malfunctioning)
