HP 840 G3
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Good morning.

I have a HP 840 G3 Elitebook (I love it), but I would like to upgrade its OS to Windows 10 Pro from the original Windows 7 Pro. Is it possible somehow? Or do I have to buy a new Windows 10 Pro OS and licens?

(I know that in the past this was possible for free, but now I do not see this option and I read that on a forum some OEM Windows could be updated later)

If they can't/won't help you, then just call HP and they will.

I have bought used HP Elite series notebooks and desktop PC's for years, and always get the recovery media from HP for free if the PC is still under warranty, or $10 if it isn't.

All my Elite series notebook's and desktop PC's came with 3yr/3yr/3yr warranties (parts, labor, on-site service).

You can look up the warranty status of your notebook below...

Here is an old HP business support phone directory I have by country.

The number for USA/Canada is still valid.

Hi:

Didn't your notebook come with a W10 installation disk in the box?

Your PC has downgrade rights from W10 Pro to W7 Pro, so I suggest you contact HP technical support for the country you live in, and get the W10 disk if yours didn't come with one.

I have a 350 G1 that came installed with W7 Pro from the factory, but HP included a W8.1 Pro installation disk in the box with the paperwork.

Honestly, I bought HP 840 G3 as a used laptop from a company. But they just added the notebook and the charger. (I have contract / documentation from them).
