Recovery disc creation

Hello,

If I create "Recovery disc's" after other software has been loaded, will the recovery disc's include the additional software? Or, is it only from the recovery partition on the drive?

Hi,

Recovery media is basically a bootale copy of the recovery partition and will not include any software etc that has been added since you purchased the machine.

If you want to create recovery media that includes everything in your Windows setup, then consider using a third-party product known as Macrium Reflect.

Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives.

What I recommend is the following:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)
2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB stick
3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD

My experience is that MR, when using the High Compression option, typically can compress the saved image file to about 50% of the USED space in the OS partition.  This means if you have an 80GB OS partition, and 40GB is used, MR only needs about 20GB to store the image file.

Plus, MR has the option to Add a Recovery Boot Menu entry.  This allows you then to boot into WinRE, and you can then use that to do a restore -- when you can't boot into Windows!

NOW, you have the means to restore a full working system from the external drive or USB stick in only a few minutes.

So if I use MR to create recovery media from my new laptop, what are the odds of it copying any spyware that might be installed on it? Can I use it to recover my previous laptop that the recovery media failed on (destination drive not connected)? My FIOS router has been hacked for the 3rd time since November 29/30 2016,  and a reset is recommended by FIOS. I don't want to have any spyware copied over to the recovery disks. I haven't had the new laptop long enough to make them yet since I've been dealing with the hacking stuff (not really been using the new computer, been using iPad instead and doing things old  fashioned style until hacking issues have been resolved lol) I do know that the recovery media is made from the recovery partition, so that's what I'm asking. If the spyware has corrupted that partition, will a recovery disc also contain the  spyware if I try to create the discs? Should I try to create the discs or just ask for a set from HP since the HP and Compaq site doesn't have a set for my computer because it's too new? Best advice for recovery app?
