Thank you so much. I did not realize it would cost so much...are there legitimate cost effective alternatives available?? Also, another quick question, if I may, regarding the installation of a brand new hard drive into this laptop. How do I determine compatibility of new drive? Is it standard 2.5 data?? With being brand new drive install, old drive completely shot with no hopes of recovering any of the data, does it have to be the hp recovery media or can it be any os then manually add drivers for all integral components via hp website? Sorry to bombard you, just trying to make sure all my ducks are in a row. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question a. Happy 499th. Thanks again? Cheekykat

I did not mean to have selected solved for these issues. I would change it but am unsure how to do it or even if it's possible. Thank you for your time and attention. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Cheekykat

You're very welcome.

Yes, the new hard drive you get would be a standard 2.5" 7mm or 9.5 mm thick, SATA II or III notebook hard drive.

If you decide to get the recovery disks, you need to purchase a hard drive at least as large in storage capacity) as the one that came with your notebook.

Recovery disks have all of the drivers and software already included.

If you install a plain copy of W7, you would get the drivers and available software for download at the link below.

The notebook came from HP with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

If you can still read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on the Microsoft COA sticker on the PC's case, you can download the W7 Home Premium 64 bit ISO file from the link below, and then use the ISO to dvd or usb flash drive tool at the link below this one, that will make the ISO file bootable.  Use the product key to activate the installation.

This link will expire within 24 hours.

Hi:

Here is a new link to the ISO file.  Then use the ISO to DVD or USB tool link I posted before.

Again...good for 24 hours from when I posted it...
