I'm having trouble loading up my Microsoft HP laptop. It turns on then acts like it's about to start. Then it turns off and repeats. The caps lock light comes on for a bit then turns off what do I do? Please answer ASAP it's my school laptop and essay season is coming up! And my laptop is something I need. Thanks for reading!

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP laptop and it does not work properly. I read that the laptop makes an attempt to power up and load and then turns off right away. The caps lock light comes on for a bit then turns off. Not to worry as I have a few suggestions though.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • The exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Did any hardware changes take place on the laptop or maybe any updates happened recently?
  • Does the laptop power on without the battery (using only the charger) and vice versa?
  • Any beep sounds heard from the laptop?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

If the issue still persists then I suggest you to perform a BIOS recovery. This link provides detailed steps: http://hp.care/2bXONjA

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please keep me posted. All the best for your School's essay season. 🙂
