Just downloaded Wireless Button Driver sp59720. This effectively toggles the antenna on/off. The confusion appears to be that Win 8 reports "Airplane Mode" when this key is toggled. That is different than Win 7. AS long as it does the job I'm satisfied.
Hey thanks for this post. This solution worked for me. I am going to repost this on the other thread and give you credit for coming up with a fix, no thanks to HP.

Sorry, I have to tell that the solutions doesn't work.
I have a HP envy dv6 and the airplane mode is off, but still the keyboard's wirelss buttons display the orange light, and I can't enable the wireless shown as in the image:
I have WIN 8, I updated the BIOS, F.23
And then I also installed the HP Wireless Button Driver but nothing...
I'm totally upset, can't beleive this kind of behaviour.
I supect that this happend when I closed my notebook, then open and finally turned off pressing the power button for some seconds...
Please fix this as soon as possible if you need more information contact me, but please fix it.

For dv6t-6c00 - Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook - after the upgrade to windows 8.1 PRO from windows 7, F12 key - WIFI button stopped working. I have upgraded the WIFI button driver SP59835 from your webpage for this laptop and installed but, it has activated the airplane mode to on or off but, the ornage light stayed solid meaning the button is not really on and not working. Can you please, help. I have updated all the drivers provided on HP website including the BIOS but, that didn't help either. I see you ahve a intel, broadcom, qualcom wireless netowk drivers but, not REaltek drivers posted on your webpage. So, I have upgraded the realtek RT8188CE wireless card driverss from Realtek for windows 8 but, that didn't help also.
This is strange after more than three years we are still reeling with this issue. Can you please, help.
