Hi,

Appreciate the help below. My laptop stopped booting into windows (8.1 Pro) the other day. After running several diagnostics, (memory, disk, system board, etc,) with no problem found, I tried the System Restore from Bios\troubleshooting. (not wanting to have tto re-install all my applications).

After restore, i was presented with the Actiavte Windows screen looking for a Product Key.

I don't recall receiving a product key as the laptop came with Windows 8 pre-installed.

I tried the product key provided by the First Suggestion above (pkeyuibx). which did find a key. Unfortunatey, MS came back with "This product key doesn't work." Even thought the last 4 digits matched the Current product key shown.

I tried the online activation, again, MS said that it could not activate this version.

Problem is that I need to activate windows 8 in order to upgrade to windows 8.1 pro (which I have a product key for).

Tried using a winodws 8.1 pro iso and PK, but it would not accept it this way.

Quite frustrating that the restore doesn't automatically activate....arghhhh.

Any help appreciated.

Doug

When a user receives Windows 8 installation disc from a buddy unaccompanied by a product key, he begins to search it here and there. As we acknowledge, in the absence of the product key windows 8 is pretty impossible to be installed. You can check[edit]further detail.
