ProBook G2
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Apologies if this has already been posted but I have searched for the most relevant posts I could find.

I am attempting to install Windows 7 on this device however it stops detecing the external CD drive & USB drive once I boot this from the BIOS.

Is there any kind of workaround available for this?  I only have one external CD device available.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

That is interesting...

Try converting the installation DVD to a USB installation flash drive and running this tool.

There is a readme file on the link for using the tool and how to convert the DVD to a ISO file to be used on a flash drive.

Must be run on a PC with W8.1 or W10...

Hi:

If the notebook has a USB2 port, try plugging your external DVD drive in the USB 2 port.

It won't work right when booting from a USB3 port.

You also have to make sure legacy mode is enabled in the BIOS and secure boot is disabled in the BIOS in order to install and run W7.

Thanks for the quick response Smiley Happy

Yes it is set to Legacy and will successfully boot from the external cd drive, however the usb stops working after 5 seconds or so elapse.   It looks like it stops interacting with the laptop at this stage entirely.

Absolutely stumped with this.

Many thanks - I assume both USBs on this laptop are 3.0 which could pose problems.

I will try this and revert back.
