Hi. I have Compaq Presario CQ40-515AX Notebook PC - VJ985PA#ABG.

It had Vista which was unbearable, so I installed Windows 8 and it works MUCH better.

But it doesn't let me use an external monitor properly. I can plug in a monitor to the VGA port, but it doesn't detect this a s a second display'.

When I hit fn F4 i get "Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling driver or using a different vidoe card"

HP doesn't list laptop model as supported for W8. Will Vista drivers work? What about W7 ones?

Hi singla237. If you have and AMD graphic card you could try to autodetect the drivers. You can download the software from here:
