HP ProBook 470 G1
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I'm trying to start HP Recovery Manager on my HP ProBook 470 G1.

For that:

1. I turn my notebook on and press Esc key. Startup Menu appears.

2. I see the following entries in the menu:

  F1 System Information

  F2 System Diagnostics

  F7 HP SpareKey

  F9 Boot Device Options

  F10 BIOS Setup

  F12 Network Boot

  ENTER - Continue Startup

3. I see that Startup Menu has no "F11 System Recovery" entry.

So, I can't start HP Recovery Manager before Windows start.

After Windows start I searched for HP Recovery Manager in Start menu for no avail.

I see HP RECOVERY disk labeled 😧 in My Computer in Windows.

How do I start HP Recovery Manager to reset my notebook to factory defaults?

I started HP Client Security recently and made some adjustments. It does not allow me to change anything anymore: when I try to log in as an administrator, the software hangs.

I've read the article about Startup Menu (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03854520/?openCLC=true#AbT4), it states that "F11 System Recovery" entry must be present.

It would not be present if:

The notebook was purchased with FreeDos or someone inadvertently or otherwise made changes in the 😧 Recovery partition.

You should have created a USB recovery flash drive by now to allow use of the HP Recovery Manager.

The HP Quickspecs state that it was delivered with a license and media for Windows 8 Pro software. You should locate that media.

The referenced Quickspecs for your notebook are at the link below.

Aha. "I started HP Client Security recently and made some adjustments." Which adjustments? That was not the best of plans.  I suggest you contact HP for support and help with your issues.

The following link goes to the support portal for your notebook. Use the contact options at the top row on the right- hand side.

Thanks for the info.

HP Client Security adjustments... Can't remember for sure, since can't see the adjustment options anymore — the client hangs on start.

The notebook was purchased with Windows 7 onboard with option for Windows 8 upgrade. Guarantee period ran out, so the support portal will cost some money, I think. Maybe, I'll find a solution, thanks.
