Bluetooth problems and Windows 8.1

I have an HP Pavillion g6-2120nr.  Since updating to Windows 8.1, my Atheros bluetooth stops being recognized and I can usually get it going again with a reboot but now nothing works.  every time this happens, in "device manager" I get an error "unknown USB device (Device Discriptor Request Failed)" Also, there is nothing in device manager for the bluetooth device.  I have tried removing the "unkknown" device, I have tried reinstalling drivers.  I can't "uninstall" the bluetooth device because it doesn't show up! my wifi works perfectly.  HELP!!!!

Re: Bluetooth problems and Windows 8.1

Please provide the exact hardware id for your bluetooth device so that we can suggest the latest driver.

please follow these steps:
1. In the search option of Charms Bar type devmgmt.msc. Select the resulted file in the left pane. This opens Device Manager.
2. Unknown devices would be listed as such and marked out with a yellow question mark.
3. Select the unknown device or other device for which you need drivers and right click to access Properties.
4. In the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id  or Hardware ID from the drop down.
5. An alphanumeric string like this PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_7130&SUBSYS_012F1025&REV_01\4&6B16D5B&0&33F0 is the identification marker for the device.
6. Please provide this number so that we can suggest the appropriate driver.

This seems to be the hardware id for the USB ports. Could you please provide the hardware id of Bluetooth.

Re: Bluetooth problems and Windows 8.1

The problem is, when this code happens, the bluetooth hardware disappears from the device manager.

Re: Bluetooth problems and Windows 8.1

Sorry, that did not work.  I feel my solution lies in the USB unknown issue.  The bluetooth stops being recognised when that happens.  A few times i have been able to get it working again, that error wasn't there. AND everytime the bluetooth stops working, I get that unknown usb error.

Re: Bluetooth problems and Windows 8.1

Please try Windows update for both the devices and check if the drivers get downloaded and the issue gets resolved.
