Boot device not found

My son was watching video's yesterday on his computer--compaq presario CQ57 with Windows 7, when it wouldn't reload to another video. After turning the computer off and back on this is the message we got:

Boot Device Not found

Please install an operating system on your hard disk

Hard Disk (3FO)

F2 System Diagnostics

For more information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup

We have not added anything to the computer. I bought it on 10/20/2011 and it has already crashed?

Re: Boot device not found

It sounds like the hdd has failed, not too uncommon in these heat producing beasts. You have a standard 1 yr warranty. Contact HP

Re: Boot device not found

Good luck with your repair, it shouldn't take very long from my experiences. In the future it might be a good idea to invest in a laptop cooling pad with fan to use under the laptop if he watches a lot of videos or plays games, which generates a lot of extra heat. They plug into a usb port and require no power source.

A lot of people also don't realize that a laptop's cooling vents are all or mostly on the bottom and should never be blocked.Best to use on a hard surface or with something solid (magazine, etc) under them when used on the lap, bed, sofa, etc.Sort of contradicts the term 'lap'top, huh?

You can also try reseating the hdd to be sure it is plugged in securely.
